Adam Smith Mural

Commissioned to mark the 125th anniversary of the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy, the mural traces the life of local boy Smith on a swirling timeline inspired by 18th century calligraphy.

The timeline aims to show not just Smith’s achievements but his eccentricities. He was a profound enthusiast, a man immersed in learning who kept strange hours and hoarded books. He’s shown, even as a baby, as a tiny, intense adult pondering great thoughts!

Drawn in ink layered with watercolour, the mural is printed on digital wallpaper. Coloured to match the theatre’s Spinning Top Cafe setting, which is painted in shades of teal to reflect Smith’s fascination with the sea.
